Preparing the Montessori Art Environment
**Environment Composition for Art**
Providing the child with an appropriate art environment is the key to involving them in the process. This art environment comprises several things, such as:
- Aprons within the child's reach.
- Art supplies arranged on low, accessible shelves.
- A fixed spot where artwork can be placed to dry.
- Vinyl table mats, splat mats, and plastic table coverings.
- Watercolour.
- Different types of brushes and painting tools.
- A variety of glues.
- Baskets and containers to keep beads, gems, and other art supplies organised.
**Essential Rules**
- The child fetches their own materials and returns them.
- The child cleans up their own workspace.
- One activity at a time on the mat.
- Wet work has a designated drying area.
