Restricted Approach to Technology in Montessori Settings & Health Guidelines
**Guidelines**
The US Department of Health and Aging devised *"The Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Guidelines for Early Childhood Settings"* in 2009. These guidelines support the Montessori approach to **restricted digital access** in a Montessori environment.
According to these guidelines, exposing children to digital devices at an early age can be dangerous, posing several risks:
- Unhealthy eating habits.
- Less creative and outdoor activity.
- Muscle and bone growth retardation.
- Retarded growth of linguistic skills and short-term memory.
**Disadvantages of Higher Screen Time**
- Reduced empathy and social skills.
- Sleep disturbance.
- Eye strain and poor posture.
- Shortened attention span.
- Less time spent in self-initiated exploration.
