Discrepancies in Using Technology in Montessori Settings
When a computer is used in a Montessori setting for teaching purposes, it can violate some of the most fundamental approaches of Montessori learning — specifically the **hands-on approach** and the **practical life exercises**.
Technology cannot teach students the following skills:
- Genuine social interaction with peers and adults.
- Tactile discrimination (weight, texture, temperature).
- Real-world coordination of the whole body.
- Care of a living environment (plants, animals, classroom).
- The patience and persistence that comes from repeating a hands-on task.
These are precisely the skills the Montessori environment is designed to build.
