Concentration & Normalization — Observation No. 6
Perhaps Dr. Montessori's most surprising discovery was the phenomenon she called **normalization**.
She observed that when a child finds work that genuinely interests them and is allowed to engage with it without interruption, the child enters a state of **deep concentration**. After this concentrated work, the child emerges:
- Calmer
- More joyful
- More self-disciplined
- More social and considerate
She called this transformed state **normalisation** — the appearance of the child's true nature when given freedom, purposeful work, and a respectful environment.
